is the Academy of Strings? |
- The
Academy of strings is a non-profit string
orchestra founded in 1996. It provides at least
2 free concerts to the public.
- Its
Motto - "Let's share the joy of music,
whether through playing music, or by listening
to it.

are its aims? |
- To
provide high standard musical activities to
string players of any age (those who have left
school but still want to keep up their playing
are especially welcome.)
- To
provide musical entertainment to the community.

| How
does it achieve its aims? |
- Through
rehearsals from February to September (approx.
8 months, with 2 short term breaks), on Saturdays,
from 4:00 to 6:00, at Pakuranga Community Centre,
Reeves Road;
- Providing
2 to 3 concerts, with additional performing
opportunities (decided by availability of members)

much does it cost to become a member? |
- $150
for the whole year.
- Free
instrumental lessons on application.
- Reduced
enrolment fee on application.

| Where
does the money go to? |
- Purchasing
music and making copies,
- Renting
rehearsal and concert venues,
- Tutor's
fees, and
- Advertising.
- (Statements
of Income and Expenditure are open to all members.)

can I become a member? |
- All
accomplished string players with Grade 6 or
equivalent are welcome.
- Admission
by audition.
